Mastering the Method: How to Prepare Perfect Method Feeder Pellets

Whether you’re an experienced angler or just starting out, method fishing is a brilliant style to explore. If you are looking for something a bit more relaxing than holding 16m of fluorocarbon, fishing the method feeder is a highly effective tactic to add to your arsenal. It is easy to cast, relatively tangle-free, and brilliant for catching larger species in a lake, such as Carp, Tench, Bream, or Barbel.

Getting your coarse fishing baits right ensures they stay on your feeder during the cast and actively attract those hungry fish once they hit the bottom.

Step 1: Get Your Method Feeder Pellets Ready

The foundation of great method fishing starts with choosing the right bait. Start with your choice of 2mm coarse fishing baits, such as Ringers method micros or 2mm Coppens/Skrettings coarse pellets.

• Why 2mm? This size is absolutely ideal for method feeder pellets because it provides a fine, even texture that can be easily moulded around your feeder.

• Preparation: Simply place your chosen pellets into a clean bait box or mixing container, ready for the next step.

Step 2: Add Water (Carefully!)

The absolute key to preparing perfect method feeder pellets is getting the water-to-pellet ratio just right. Slowly pour lake water over your pellets until it just reaches the top of the pellet line. You do not want to swamp them; a little puddle on top is exactly what you are looking for.

Top Angling Tip:

Enhance your catch rate by using fishing bait additives! Add a flavour or colour-enhancing liquid to the water prior to pouring it onto the pellets. This helps increase the overall attraction of your bait. We highly recommend using a sweet additive, like Peg No.1 Yellow Scopex Transformers liquid, which turns the pellets a vibrant yellow and gives off an incredibly sweet, fish-drawing scent.

Step 3: Let Them Soak

Once you have added the water and any chosen fishing bait additives, it is time to be patient. Leave your method feeder pellets to soak for at least an hour.

• For best results: Soak them overnight. This allows the pellets to fully absorb the water, ensuring they reach that perfect, spongy consistency without turning to mush.

Step 4: The Final Prep

Once they are ready, your method feeder pellets will have swollen up and become soft and pliable. Empty them out into a larger groundbait bowl. They might be clumped together from the soaking process, so simply use your hands to gently break them down, separate them, and introduce some air into the mix.

Once you have broken them down, you will have a batch of perfectly prepared method feeder pellets, ready to be moulded tightly onto your method feeder. They will have exactly the right amount of stickiness to endure the impact of the cast, but will break down quickly and effectively once they hit the lakebed, creating an irresistible feeding zone.
