What is floater fishing?

Floater fishing is a fishing technique of using floating bait on the surface of the water. It’s the perfect technique for targeting surface-feeding types of fish such as Carp, Chubb or even Rudd. The floater is either a floating Pellet, Biscuit or it could be a popup boilie which uses a perfect mix of high-quality ingredients infused with powerful oil-based attractants to help attract fish to the area where the baits are floating. The floating fishing bait acts to mimic natural food sources that have dropped into the water and attract the fish to the surface.

It can be difficult to master – requiring skilful casting, patience, and quietness not to scare or spook the fish.

What is the best time of year to fish floaters?

Although factors such as species, stocking density and depth of water can be a factor, generally the warmer months of the year are usually best such as late spring to early autumn. In the warmer months of the year, the fish are sitting in the upper layers and are generally more active.

When is the best time of day to fish floaters?

Evenings and early mornings tend to be the best time of the day when the fish are more actively feeding and there’s more surface activity.

What are the best hook baits to use for floater fishing?

Generally, the best type of floaters baits are hookable floaters as they’re easy to use, they just go straight onto a hook. Alternatively, you can glue floating pellets or biscuits directly onto the hook. For best results, you can even soak these baits in liquid attractants which soaks into the floater baits and leak out attractants. These buoyant baits imitate natural food items and entice surface-feeding fish like carp.

How much floater bait would I need?

A pot of hookbaits and 1-2kg of floating fishing pellets or biscuits to feed is usually enough for a session. Although the amount of floater bait you’ll need depends on various factors, such as the duration of your fishing session, the number of fish you’re targeting, and their feeding activity. Being prepared with extra bait ensures you can adjust your approach as needed during the fishing session.
